Morris Volunteer Fire

Well Involved Structure Fire 159 Watertown Rd 1/04/10

Shortly after 3am Litchfield County Dispatch started to receive 911 calls about a possible structure fire on Watertown Rd near Anderson Rd. As they worked to narrow down the exact address Morris Volunteers were dispatched to the area along with a mutual aid tanker from the Town of Watertown. As the crews got within a mile or so of the scene the smoke header illuminated by heavy fire was visible and a working structure fire was confirmed along with mutual aid requests from Litchfield and Bethlehem for additional tankers and manpower. With the Morris Tanker 3 in first crews began to stretch line to battle the blaze as neighbors confirmed the owners were away on vacation which would account for the fire being through the roof upon arrival. The second Morris engine laid in a 4 inch supply line so that the tankers would not have to back down the long driveway. Watertown's Tanker 4 was the third engine in to pump the water supply from the street and to feed the existing operation with their on board water supply. The cold, coupled with water supply issues would create problems and prolong the fire which would be brought under control in about an hour and a half but crews would be on scene into the morning wetting down any hot spots. Even though the crews worked hard under adverse conditions the damage to the house was extensive and it would be a total loss. The fire marshal's office was called to the scene so that the cause of the fire might be determined.
